Psalms 27:14 is becoming our verse:

Wait for the LORD, Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.

November has come and gone, December has come and gone, and now January is nearly gone, and we are still waiting here in the USA so we can go to PNG and serve.

We were not looking for a job to do when we learned of a need at the Kudjip Nazarene MK school that we seemed to be equipped to fill.  We prayed and asked God to close the doors if we were not supposed to go and serve there.  But the doors did not close so we proceeded forward.  In our American minds we assumed that meant we would go as soon as possible.  NOT!  The doors are not closed, but we can’t get through at this time.  We continue to wait on paperwork.  God has a reason that we are not there yet though we cannot see it or understand it.

We have talked to a few other missionaries who shared that they too ran into delays.  Months of delays has not been unusual.  That takes us back to our other verse:

My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” declares the LORD
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”        Isaiah 55: 8-9

We cannot understand, but we must take courage and trust, be obedient and wait for the Lord to work the details out.

Our latest news is:  Bob now has his visa and work permit to teach at the MK school.  Gayle had her visa kicked back because she will not be able to work at the hospital without a PNG nursing license.  So she is now going as a dependent under Bob.   However, Gayle’s visa is being held up as she waits for the work permit department to rescind her initial permit and send a letter confirming that to the visa department.  Our prayer request would be that this takes place as soon as God wants it to. (Sooner than later would be just fine with us! 😊)

We have continued to stay in contact with PNG.  The most recent news is we now have a designated “home” at Kudjip (pictured above.)  We will be staying in a duplex:  two bedrooms, with water, stove, oven, washer and clothesline for drying. We are excited about our accommodations!   We will have nationals, fellow missionaries and other volunteer missionaries (such as ourselves) as neighbors.  Bob will only have about a 5 minute walk to the MK school.  Our missionary friends want to stock our new home with a few groceries prior to our arrival.  Isn’t God amazing?  Our PNG friends have already made us feel a part of the family as they prepare our new home for our arrival and continue to pray for us!  We are blessed!

While we are still here, we are attempting to stay busy with family and friends and saying goodbyes AGAIN, helping in small ways to love on God’s people and working on projects here at home.  We thank you for your continued prayers.  When we hear that you have been praying for us and our friends in PNG are praying for us that encourages us as we are waiting.  Thank you!

To be continued…

  3. Hi Bob & Gayle! We certainly know that “months slipping by” limbo feeling. We thought we’d be approved to leave in August and ended up here in December! But I will attest that God’s timing was perfect in so many ways, so we’ll eagerly await your arrival! Our kids can’t wait until you’re here - just up the path from us!
